The director of the calligraphy laboratory is currently concurrently served by Professor Zhang Binghuang, director of the Wenqi Art Center, who is the soul of the calligraphy laboratory.

Zhang Binghuang, courtesy name Zijing, was born in Keelung in 1949. After graduating from the private World Journalism and Communication School, he studied calligraphy in various styles, as well as poetry, ink painting, etc. Professor Zhang currently teaches in the Chinese Department of our school and is an internationally renowned calligrapher with a wide range of works and publications. He has made considerable contributions to the promotion of contemporary calligraphy. Since 1981, he has lectured on “Chinese Calligraphy” on the 3rd TV station and served as a standard Chinese calligraphy demonstration for “One Word of the Day” for nearly 20 years. He has also devoted himself to calligraphy education and promotion campaigns, advocating the vigorous development of Taiwanese calligraphy and gaining international reputation. In order to strengthen the power of the rise of computers in promoting calligraphy, we began to jointly develop the “e-pen calligraphy and painting system” with the information engineering professor of Tamkang University in 2001. It is currently the most advanced digital writing tool in the world. In recent years, Director Zhang Binghuang has been committed to promoting the e-pen calligraphy and painting system and calligraphy education in addition to promoting traditional calligraphy and painting.

◎ I have been writing “Word of the Day” on TV for more than 19 years. Currently, “New Word of the Day” is being relaunched and is now being broadcast, and I have changed to writing model characters with e-pen.
◎ Lead the association, advocate the vigorous development of calligraphy, organize the Golden Goose Award Calligraphy Competition, Taiwan Calligraphy Annual Exhibition, New Year’s Calligraphy Conference, Calligraphy, Spring and Autumn Competition, Spring Couplet Writing, establish the Zhongshan Stele Forest, calligraphy teaching research and cultivate teachers… etc.
◎ Serves as the Chairman of the International Calligraphy Federation and the Honorary Vice President of the International Lanting PEN Club.
